about the trip
Rising Phoenix is a ten day expedition to Atlanta, Georgia, for twenty five cadets and staff from two London Wing Squadrons. Taking place over the half-term week of October/November, 2008, the trip aims to give the participants an incredible insight in to modern combat aviation.
The aviation highlights include an extensive tour around Lockheed Martin production facilities in Marietta, Georgia, where cadets will watch both C-130 "Hercules" and F-22 "Raptor" aircraft being built. Participants will also tour Robbins Air Force base and US Marine Corps aviation sites, and get up close to cutting edge combat aviation.
The trip is not limited to aviation: a parade to commemorate the loss of RAF pilots in Albany will provide the centre of a cultural experience that includes links with the US Civil Air Patrol (ATC equivalent), and local communities in Georgia. The participants will also spend time in local areas of interest, including accommodation at the Navy Lakes site.
